The Alsatian vineyard is located on the foothills of the Vosges. It is sheltered from oceanic influences by this massif. This natural barrier contributes to the unique climate of Alsace, which makes it possible to produce Great Wines. We have a low rainfall (600 to 650 mm per year) which favors the quality of the grapes and better control of maturity.
Located in the heart of Alsace vineyard, between Riquewihr and Ribeauvillé, Zellenberg was considered in the Middle Ages to be a renowned wine-growing village, judging from the multiple references to the vine, which abound in old ecclesiastical documents. Indeed, the existence of a tithe courtyard of the abbey of Luxenie is mentioned as early as the 10th century. The Marmoutier abbey has been present in the village at least since the 11th century. The Dominicans received there the tithe in wine in the 13th century, while the Bishop of Basles received two thunderbolts.
Established in the small village of Zellenberg for many generations, Maison Jean Huttard operates its 8 hectares of vines in organic farming. The extraordinary vineyard division of Alsace allows us to exploit 45 plots spread over 6 towns: Ribeauvillé | Hunawihr | Zellenberg | Beblenheim | Mittelwihr | Bennwihr.
This mosaic of terroirs allows us to work with different types of soils, such as clay-limestone, marl-limestone, marl-limestone sandstone, clay-marly or marly-sandstone.
The geological diversity coupled with the hard work of man, favors the production of a wide range of wines.
THROUGH THE KNOWLEDGE OF OUR TERROIRS AND THEIR GEOLOGY, THROUGH THE EXPERIENCE OF ANCIENTS, WE SHAPE A LANDSCAPE AND MAKE EACH VINTAGE PURE AND COMPLEX WINES. WE ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT OUR VINES, WE VINIFY OUR WINES WITH LOVE, WHICH ALLOWS OUR CUVÉES TO HAVE UNIQUE PERSONALITIES.
